Kunming Bird and Flower Market
We were lucky to catch Kunming's Bird and Flower Market on Sunday's bird trader day; to see not just the birds but also the bird enthusiasts themselves (of whom my brother is one) whiling away their Sunday mornings seated (or squatting) in a telly-watching -like trance, enchanted by those little caged birds. (Today's feature: the huamei bird) |
Ling Xing Gate Confucian Temple 文庙棂星门
A surprise find on our way home: the small Ling Xing Gate Confucian Temple garden. Untouched by the refurbishers, and glorious in her shabby quaintness, peeling paint, sweet and lush gardens, winding paths, almost-Venetian-style canal bordering a sheltered cafe verandah, wooden-latticed and tiled pagodas, tiled garden benches, and crowded tables humming with chess and checkers players as well as the odd snoozer taking refuge from the Renmin Street shopper and traffic buzz. |
