Chinese New Year 2014 and a good time to get the hell out of Dodge. The bahasa-speaking world is my target this year and after only one very beautiful day in Kuala Lumpur I made the leap to Bali. I wasted only as much time as it takes to take in astoundingly filthy beaches, catch the dreaded Bali Belly and know I have to get out of this place. As soon as I was able to, I quickly moved on to beautiful Gili Air, a ten minute boat ride from Lombok, to steady myself, recover and get in lots of gorgeous snorkelling. Thence to Lombok itself, an island that's been on my to-visit list for a long time. To these lovely places I will return, but first here's some bad news and everyone needs to know this. Bali stinks. Photo right: Legian/Seminyak Beach on the south west coast of Bali an hour or two after the bulldozers had been through to clean up the beach. Photos below: In spite of the stench a few nice shots and a beautiful smile taken around Canggu, a town and beach further along the coast to the northwest of Seminyak. |
